about

Hong Kong, 2014. The guys from a Taipei venue had been asking us for weeks to shoot a video invitation to a gig. After trying out the "talking heads" in the hotel lounge, we realized that if we were going to take on this job, we had to get creative. So, after a red dry, we headed into town on the hunt for footage.

It was a warm evening. The smell of Hong Kong streets and wine encouraged a little recklessness. We dressed Leo up in a hoodie with our logo on it and sent him dancing to a shady but spectacular spot. It was a ledge of a building on the third floor level, with a driveway below it. We shot some videos and took this picture on the bridge. We didn't know then that the locals wouldn't appreciate our creativity.

The sound of sirens and tires whistling echoed around the block. A cop ran out of a patrol car that had pulled up under the bridge in the spirit of a Hong Kong action movie. "站立!" he yelled, pointing his baton at us. We were in another country. We didn't know the local rules. We didn't know what punishment awaited us. Within seconds we were racing through the back alleys of the local cops.

We rounded a Buddhist park, crossed a tent camp of sleepy beggars, and ended up in the courtyard of a high-rise. The door was open. We ran inside and found ourselves on the 10th floor. Remember the proverb, "fear has many eyes"? We looked at each other and, for the first time in our lives, I think we understood it literally. In 15-20 minutes, chuckling nervously, we left the doorway. Next comes the scene: we see the very same patrol car, and the policemen see us. There was no point in running.

Feet shoulder width apart. Hands on the wall. The cops took our manager to the "crime scene", and we were questioned separately. We explained, with our tongues slurring, why we had run away. After the statements came together and the cops realized that we were not a threat to ourselves or others, they explained what the problem was. It turned out that someone had called the police and reported a suicide attempt.

The policemen were kind and asked us to put on some IWFYLS track. Banging their heads to Distant Voices, they advised us to be more careful and choose safer places to shoot. By the way, we never made the video invitation to the Taiwanese concert. But a shot of one of those videos became the cover of our this EP nine years later.
